We have a had a few brides ask us recently the best way to secure wedding veils into your hair so we thought we would share a few tips with you. If you are wearing your hair up, veils tend to stay in the hair pretty well but if you want to wear your hair down they will need a bit of extra security. This post refers to traditional style veils with combs attached, we also have a guide on how to secure drop veils.
My favourite way to secure a bridal veil is to decide where you want the comb to sit, we normally recommend wearing your veils at one o clock but this will vary depending on your chosen hair style. Once you have chosen your favourite position lift the top layer of hair and just below where you want the hair comb to sit secure two kirby grips in an x shape. Drop the top layer of hair and secure the comb of the veil in the x shape. You may need more than two if your hair is very thick or super silky! It is a good idea to use kirby grips that match your hair colour.
Another great way is to decide where you would like the veil to sit, lift the top layer of hair and secure tiny ponytails with mini elastic bands. Drop the top layer of hair back down and secure the comb into the hidden ponytails. This is particularly good for short hair!
Alternatively you can take two sections of hair on either side of where you would like to wear the veil and create a mini ponytail that you secure with a mini elastic band, you can then insert your veil into the ponytail.
All these methods work well, we had a play in the studio and tried jumping up and down and the veils stayed in place. It is a good idea to have a practise before the big day! Happy playing!
