An intimate yet fun garden wedding under the Australian summer sunshine, saw Britten Bride Anita marry her groom Angus in front of their closest family and friends. The wedding ceremony took place at Kings Park in Perth, where Anita and Angus ‘fell in love with the gardens’. The natural beauty of the surroundings and the joy of the newlywed couple were captured perfectly in the vintage style of photographer Amy Skinner.

‘We immediately felt comfortable with her and she made it a very fun experience too. I cannot express how happy I am that she and her team photographed our wedding.’

The loved-up pair met online, and after dating for a while, Angus popped the question during a weekend away in Sydney. On their return to Melbourne, they visited Ellissi Jewellery, and with help from shop assistant Ian, they chose to have a solitaire diamond and yellow gold engagement ring made.

When it came to buying a bridal gown, a traditional bridal shop visit eventually triumphed after an initial disappointing online purchase. After deciding that the first dress wasn't quite right for her, Anita set her sights on finding a wedding dress with sleeves, and with help from the amazing staff at Always and Forever Bridal, shefound a modest and comfortable dress with lace edging by Wendy Makin Bridal Designs.

Anita teamed her gown with a sweet and elegant mantilla style veil, layered with the subtle sparkle of our silver deco wedding hair pins 'Avril'. Adding further hints of shimmer, she made the most of her half up half down bridal hairstyle, showing off the stunning wedding drop earrings silver, pearl and crystal 'Cora' and the pearl drop wedding necklace gold 'Hermione', and completing her bridal outfit with the something blue lace wedding garter 'Catherine', all handmade by us. 

Anita asked her three sisters to be her bridesmaids, with Angus’ best friend Georgie as his ‘best woman’, choosing comfortable and flattering dusty pink dresses for them to wear, accessorised with jewellery given as thank you gifts on the day.

The wedding party was made up of around 60 of the couple’s closest family and friends, with guests travelling to Anita’s hometown of Perth. They later had a smaller celebration in Angus’ home town of Brisbane after the wedding day.

The ceremony venue was prepared and decorated by Claire from House of Primrose, whose extremely creative style and friendly approach won the couple over, especially with her ideas to stack books on the signing table and aisle runner for a special finishing touch.

Conscious of the rising temperature and the comfort of their guests, the couple kept their ceremony at a short and sweet 20 minutes. Their celebrant, Lisa Jones, helped the bride and groom to write their own simple and traditional vows.

Their guests were welcomed to Kings Park with classical music from the Chromos Quartet, and Anita walked down the aisle to Wagner’s Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin.  After they exchanged their vows they left to Mendelssohn’s Wedding March from A Midsummer’s Night Dream, headed for a sit-down dinner reception at The Old Brewery nearby. Here the bride and groom cut the wedding cake made by Angus himself. The stunning cake consisted of three tiers of light fruitcake, decorated by Nikki’s Novelties Cakes.  

‘I had heard so many people became stressed about their wedding and they didn’t enjoy the day, so we just wanted it to be fun, relaxed, and with a few surprises. That was our goal. For example, we had That Little Gelato Cart serving ice-creams to our guests after the ceremony as it was summer. I actually found the organising quite easy, and the day went smoothly, which I attribute to our fantastic vendors. They were all great at what they do.’

Opting for a relaxed feel to their wedding, Anita and Angus chose Australian native flowers in a rustic free-form arrangement to make our invitations and bouquets by florist, Beans & Bunches.They also prepared their own place settings, choosing sugared almonds from Confetti Pelino in Sulmona, Abruzzo, Italy and Angus’ favourite chocolate as their bonbonniere.

 ‘We wanted to have a wedding dance, and Angus chose the waltz from the opera by Charles Gounod: Faust, as he likes classical music. I couldn’t stop laughing throughout our wedding dance. In most of the photos, I was pulling a face as I tried to not laugh as I felt it was so over the top. It was pretty challenging to pull off and we practised for nearly a year at the Secret Garden of Dance. I am so glad we did it as so many people complimented us on it, and that I got Angus to dance at all’

The wedding party then took to the dancefloor to the Baker Boys Band, who created a fantastic atmosphere for everyone to enjoy for the rest of the night.
