Looking after your veil
Receiving your Britten veil in the post is an exciting experience from opening the parcel, gently unwrapping the ribbon, opening up the box to reveal your veil nestled in some luxurious tissue paper. Once opened our brides are then often wondering the best way to store their veil in the lead up to their wedding day and after the big day itself.
Storing Before
We recommend hanging up your new veil as soon as it arrives in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight. We have some hanging hook and bag sets available to keep it safe and crease free till your big day. Alternatively you can hang it with your dress when it arrives at your safe place :)
If you find that space is a bit limited or you can't trust prying eyes ;) (husbands-to-be we mean you) try to keep your veil as flat as possible - like how it arrives and in the box in a cool dry place. Both options will keep it looking as good as new.
If you have had it folded we recommend hanging it up a week or two before your big day to remove any creases that may have naturally occurred whilst folded in the box.
Storing After
The gorgeous white box that your veil arrived in will keep your veil safe nestled in acid free tissue paper with archival quality will protect it for years! A few tips before placing your veil back in its box.
- Make sure its clean, a dirty veil will contaminate your box - if you find your veil is a bit dirty after your big day we recommend keeping it in the storage bag till it is dry cleaned. (storage bags can be washed)
- Wrap the comb in some tissue as sometimes hair products or natural oils from your hair can react with the comb and may stain the tulle (this is unlikely but it is better to be safe)
- Once clean and wrapped place it in its box and store it in a cool dry place.
Washing your veil
If you find that your veil is dirty after your special day we recommend getting your veil professionally dry cleaned to keep it in perfect condition for years to come.
If you find yourself in a slight emergency on your big day and you have gotten make up on your veil do not panic, there is a little trick you can do by placing a tiny amount of baby powder to remove the stain. Use a scrap piece of cotton or the edge of a sheet to remove the powder and stain - do NOT use tissue to try and remove the stain.
If you find it needs a little bit more than a the baby powder we recommend using a gentle washing liquid designed for wool/silk and hand wash. Keep the comb away from water as it may damage it.
Once it is clean hang it up to dry and the folds will drop out in a few days. Do NOT iron it as the temperature of the iron will damage the tulle.
I hope this has helped you with keeping your Britten veil safe for many years to come. If you have any questions do not hesitate to get in touch.
