How do you Store a Wedding Veil?
Once you've found the perfect bridal veil, you'll want to keep it in perfect condition so it looks fabulous on your wedding day. But just how do you store a wedding veil?
Here we'll show you a few different ways you can make sure your veil stays free from dust, creasing, and discolouration in the build up to the big day.
How do you store a wedding veil?
There are a couple of things to consider before you store your veil away ahead of saying 'I do'. Both the storage environment itself and the way you store the veil can affect the veil's appearance, so it's best to be prepared for your veil's arrival.
The storage environment
Your wedding veil should arrive beautifully packaged, usually in a box of its own, layered with pH neutral tissue paper. Make sure the area where you unwrap your veil is clean, so that if your veil sweeps to the floor it won't pick up any dirt or dust.
As much as we love them, cats and dogs can leave your veil looking a little shabby if left unsupervised. If you have pets, keep them out of the room whenever your veil is on display. This will help to prevent potential staining or damage from animals, and keep your veil fuzz-free.
We know you'll be excited to open it up and won't need telling twice, but you have our permission to remove your veil from the box once you get it home. This will help to prevent any creases from becoming deep set over time. Hang your veil to further help wrinkles fall out, and store it in a dark and dry spot to prevent discolouration or deterioration to the tulle or silk fabric.
Veil storage options
Your veil will also need to be stored correctly so it continues to look as beautiful as the day you first tried it on. Here we look at a few veil storage options, specially designed to keep your veil in the best possible condition.
Veil hanging hook
A wedding veil hanging hook comes complete with specialist clips designed to protect delicate luxury fabrics like tulle and silk. A hanging hook will allow you to store your veil on a cupboard or wardrobe rail without needing to fold it. A veil hanging hook allows your veil to drop loosely so there is less chance of it creasing.
Veil storage bag
A weddingveil storage bag helps to protect your veil from external factors like dust and sunlight that could alter how it looks. Made from breathable fabric, theyallow air to flow freely around the veil preventing mould and other nasty surprises. Veil storage bag covers should also be acid free, so your veil fabric stays light, bright, and in one piece.
How do you store a long veil?
Veils of a longer length, like floor length wedding veils, church length wedding veils, and cathedral length wedding veils, can be a little trickier to store because of the extra fabric they have.
Veil hanging attachment
A veil hanging attachment can be connected to a veil hanging hook for easier long veil storage. A veil hanging hook and hanging attachment for longer veils allows you to gently fold the extra length of the veil without creasing it, and reduces the risk of damage.
To cover as many bases as possible, you may wish to consider a combination of storage items, like a veil hanging hook and storage bag set, to keep your veil in tip-top condition.
What to do with a veil after the wedding
Once the confetti has settled and the toasts have been drunk, it's time to decide what you're going to do with your wedding dress and bridal veil after the wedding. If you want to keep your veil as an heirloom to pass down to your daughter, daughter-in-law, or another someone special, there are a few steps you can take to preserve your veil as much as possible so that it looks just as good in years to come as it did on your wedding day.
How do you preserve a wedding veil?
Continue to follow our tips about keeping the veil and its environment clean, dry, and dark. A pH neutral acid free box or veil storage bag should help you to keep your veil in good shape and colour for future generations, preventing yellow discolouration and the fabric from breaking down.
Washing your veil
If you find that your veil is dirty after your special day we recommend getting your veil professionally dry cleaned to keep it in perfect condition for years to come.
If you find yourself in a slight emergency on your big day and you have gotten make up on your veil do not panic, there is a little trick you can do by placing a tiny amount of baby powder to remove the stain. Use a scrap piece of cotton or the edge of a sheet to remove the powder and stain - do NOT use tissue to try and remove the stain.
If you find it needs a little bit more than a the baby powder we recommend using a gentle washing liquid designed for wool/silk and hand wash. Keep the comb away from water as it may damage it.
Once it is clean hang it up to dry and the folds will drop out in a few days. Do NOT iron it as the temperature of the iron will damage the tulle.
